About the Film:
The Secret of Me (2025) — Directed by Grace Hughes-Hallett | United Kingdom | Documentary | 80 mins | English
This powerful and deeply personal film follows Jim, an intersex man who discovers that his gender identity was surgically assigned to him as a child — without consent or disclosure. Through his story, the film exposes the lasting trauma caused by medical interventions justified as “corrective care,” and questions who has the authority to define identity and bodily autonomy.
As Jim’s journey unfolds, The Secret of Me forces audiences to confront the ethics of medical practice and the societal discomfort with identities that don’t fit neatly within the male–female binary.
