About the Film:
Shuffle (2025) — Directed by Benjamin Flaherty | United States | Documentary | 81 mins | English | Canadian Premiere
Filmed over three years, Shuffle follows three individuals caught in the American rehab industry’s dark cycle — a system where treatment centres profit from relapse and insurance fraud thrives under the guise of recovery.
Narrated by the filmmaker himself, the documentary uses personal experience to expose the insurance-fueled machine that turns addiction into commerce. Through interviews with an FBI informant, an insurance analyst, and a former rehab director, Shuffle reveals how profit is prioritized over healing — and how lives hang in the balance.
Winner of the Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at SXSW 2025, Shuffle is a harrowing look at the intersection of addiction, capitalism, and policy.
