This September, Propeller Art Gallery is proud to showcase two exciting new exhibitions that explore abstraction, structure, and experimentation through the eyes of Canadian artists Beverely Daniels and Anne McAlear.
Grids | Beverely Daniels
For the past few years, Beverely Daniels has been drawn to the power of the grid. Inspired by the repetition of North American cityscapes and their endless lines and rectangles, her work considers how environment shapes artistic vision.
“Walking in a North American city with its insistent grids, its repetition of rectangles, is bound to inculcate a quadrilateral bias in one’s mental image bank.”
Shape Shift | Anne McAlear
Transitioning from realism to abstraction, Anne McAlear embraces unpredictability, texture, and the bold influence of American abstract expressionists. Her work explores colour, immediacy, and the unexpected outcomes of creative risk.
“I love how colours play off of each other; I love texture and immediacy. The constant trial of getting this down on paper or panel that both satisfies and confounds me.”
