Community Funded Art: A Collective Discussion is a free, open workshop led by theatre creators Brenna Paulsen and Sydney Jinjoe, presented by the Big Kablammo Collective.
This collaborative discussion invites artists, creatives, and cultural workers across disciplines to examine the limitations of government grant funding and imagine community-funded alternatives together. Building on Paulsen and Jinjoe’s recent article, “The Trouble With State-Funded Art,” the session opens space for honest conversation around sustainability, access, and autonomy in independent art-making.
Participants will explore the challenges facing artists today, share lived experiences, and brainstorm new funding structures rooted in mutual support and collective care. While reading the article beforehand may provide helpful context, it is not required to take part in the discussion.
The event takes place at The Theatre Centre, with drinks and snacks available for purchase from the café.
