July 5th and 6th: Pianist/composer Andy Milne is
touring the US & Canada with his band Dapp Theory and will be in
Toronto for a few days in early July. He is organizing two, 1-day
workshops for a group of 5-15 musicians per day. The goal is to assemble
one or two bands, (ideally pre-existing, but everyone is welcome)
interested in being coached by Andy and his band. Participates would
also have the opportunity to play their compositions (and/or Andy's)
with Andy and his band. In addition, everyone can receive a private
lesson. The dates are July 5th and 6th. The members of Dapp Theory are
some of the strongest young improvisors from the New York scene and are
also excellent educators. This is a great opportunity to learn from
musicians comfortable with playing some advanced rhythmic grooves. Some
topics which can also be covered include: approaches to improvisation
(structured and free), ensemble playing, composition, instrument
specificchallenges. The cost will be $140 CDN/person/day, $70/day to observe all
day and participate in the group playing sessions, and $40/day to
observe.
