UPCOMING EVENTS at TIFEM:

Some are more bombastic, heavy metal, and others flutteringly minimalistic pattern pieces.  The improvs are winding fantasias.

June 26th, 2010:  Ram Vakkalanka- Sitar, Kiran Sing- vocals, and Amar Seepersad- tabla.  Come enjoy the musical soiree at TIFEM, where every musical dish- from Indian classical music to jazz, pop, soul, r&b, and funk is purveyed.  An hour and a half of pure musical joy!

Saturdays in July (July 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th):  Turkey plays at TIFEM to support music education and serving charity(www.servingcharity.com).   Turkey is a drum and keyboard experimental rock duo currently based out of Taipei, Taiwan and Toronto, Canada.  You can check out Turkey's website atwww.musicbyturkey.com . Enjoy free outdoor shows at TIFEM every Saturday in July. See you then!

July 5th and 6th:  Pianist/composer Andy Milne is touring the US & Canada with his band Dapp Theory and will be in Toronto for a few days in early July. He is organizing two, 1-day workshops for a group of 5-15 musicians per day. The goal is to assemble one or two bands, (ideally pre-existing, but everyone is welcome) interested in being coached by Andy and his band. Participates would also have the opportunity to play their compositions (and/or Andy's) with Andy and his band. In addition, everyone can receive a private lesson. The dates are July 5th and 6th. The members of Dapp Theory are some of the strongest young improvisors from the New York scene and are also excellent educators. This is a great opportunity to learn from musicians comfortable with playing some advanced rhythmic grooves. Some topics which can also be covered include: approaches to improvisation (structured and free), ensemble playing, composition, instrument specificchallenges. The cost will be $140 CDN/person/day, $70/day to observe all day and participate in the group playing sessions, and $40/day to observe.

Please email Andy at andy@dapptheory.com, or TIFEM should you have any further questions.
