"..Naming is also a tactic widely used by Business Improvement Areas looking to re-brand a particular area. Five years ago, when business owners along Queen Street between Bathurst Street and Gladstone Avenue formed a Business Improvement Area, they wanted a new name to set their neighbourhood apart, said West Queen West BIA administrator Nicholas Longstaff. Suggestions included plain old Queen West and Garrison Creek, after a waterway that used to run in the area.
The group chose West Queen West and added the tag line, “Art and Design District” to street signs in the neighbourhood to reflect the art galleries and designers in the area, Mr. Longstaff said..."
