Grady Headline West Queen West MusicFest (CHARTattack.com)
The first-ever West Queen West Music Fest, a free celebration of homegrown Toronto talent, is scheduled to take place in Trinity Bellwoods Park on Aug. 23.
Grady will headline the festival. Additional acts include Chris Caddell And The Wreckage, Opus Road, Hill And The Sky Heroes, Leh-Lo and Clifton David.
The event is presented by Rogers Sportsnet. All proceeds from the festival — received through corporate sponsorship and donations — will go to the Toronto East General Hospital Foundation. (In this time of stinky garbage, smelly parks and civic workers' strikes, who says one side of the city doesn't care about the other?) Organizers hope to raise $10,000 for the cause.
"The West Queen West Music Fest is the first free indie rock festival of its kind," says event founder and Sportsnet Connected anchor Sean McCormick.
"West Queen West is stacked with unbelievably talented indie rock musicians that deserve a stage like this, but don't always get the chance, so to do this for a worthwhile cause was an easy decision to make."
"West Queen West is a hotbed for creative diversity and a cultural Mecca attracting artists of all kinds," said West Queen West BIA Board Member Jamie Angell. "The West Queen [West] Music Fest is a perfect fit with the indie culture and eclectic mix of talents that have always called our neighbourhood home. We invite everyone with a love of good indie music to come down and party West Queen West style."
The event will feature refreshments courtesy Hero Certified Burgers and a beer garden hosted by The Hideout. For more information, visit the festival website.
